Apple and Canon announce a mirrorless lens designed for spatial video shooting

Apple and Canon today announced a new mirrorless lens designed for spatial video shooting for the Vision Pro headset.

Canon's RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM Dual lens is specifically designed for spatial video content shooting and is optimized for use with the Apple Vision Pro headset. The new lens is designed for the Canon EOS R7 camera and features dual optics that mimic the human field of view.

The lens is equipped with a high-speed autofocus mechanism, allowing videographers to shoot clear spatial videos even in difficult lighting conditions. Once recorded, footage can be processed using Canon's EOS VR Utility app, which converts video into spatial content optimized for Vision Pro.

The lens will go on sale this fall, with pricing details yet to be announced.
