Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that the Google One cloud storage service “is about to cross” the 100 million subscriber mark.
Speaking during Alphabet's Q4 2023 earnings call, Pichai added that the company is committed to adding more AI-powered features to its Google One service. The search giant first launched Google One in 2018. Since then, the product has evolved and gained additional features, including Google Photos image editing functions.
Google One plans start at $1.99 per month, which provides 100 GB of storage for sharing by five people and access to the company's VPN service in the US, TechCrunch reports.
Pichai noted that Google's overall subscription business—including YouTube Premium and Music, YouTube TV and Google One—is on an upward trajectory and has crossed the $15 billion mark in annual revenue. The company said this is a 5-fold jump compared to 2019. Driven by strong subscription performance, the Subscriptions, Platforms and Devices vertical grew 23% year-over-year.
Earlier this month, Google laid off nearly 1,000 employees across divisions including hardware, engineering and services, as well as 100 employees from YouTube. Pichai later sent an internal memo to employees saying there would be even more cuts this year.

Notably, in its earnings report, Google noted that the company has 182,502 workers, slightly more than the 182,381 workers it reported in its third-quarter earnings report. However, this is significantly less than the 190,234 workers who worked for the company at the end of 2022.
