For example, among the new APUs we will get both Ryzen 8050 and Ryzen AI 9 HX 170
It seems that AMD has really decided to break its own recently created logic for naming mobile processors.
Yesterday we saw mention of the Ryzen AI 9 HX 170 APU in one of the Asus laptops. You would think that this naming format would be used for all new processors, but it seems not. At a minimum, Lenovo mentions the Ryzen 8050 in its advertising along with the already existing Ryzen 8040. Under the names Ryzen 8050, as far as we know, successors to the Ryzen 7040/8040 — Strix Point line. Such APUs will be available in the form of energy-efficient U models and more productive H/HS models. They will have up to 12 CPU cores and an iGPU with 1024 stream processors.
That is, some of the new mobile APUs will retain the old naming logic, and some will be called in a completely new way. Additionally, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 170 format is clearly similar to the one Intel is using for its new Core Ultras.
