Drop down to 89%
About a week ago, Diablo IV received a patch that added ray tracing effects to it. It turns out that this is one of the most demanding tracing implementations currently available.
To be more precise, trace-based shadows are demanding there, while reflections, on the contrary, are quite gentle on the GPU. But as soon as you turn on shadows with ray tracing, performance drops simply catastrophically.
Even the GeForce RTX 4090, which produces 130 fps in 4K without tracing, shows only 60 fps after enabling shadows! That is, the card loses 57% of its performance. But this is an even better result.
Radeon RX 7900 XTX without tracing produces 117 fps, and with shadows based on tracing — 35 fps. This is a loss of 72% of productivity. However, the record holder here is the Intel Arc A770, which at 1440p loses 89% of its performance: from 97 fps to 11 fps.
Perhaps such results — This is not the norm, and Blizzard will correct the situation with new patches. But for now, the implementation of ray tracing in Diablo IV remains the domain of only the most powerful video cards, and even then not in all resolutions.
