The litigation between ActiBlizz and Acceleration Bay began in 2015 and lasted almost nine years. The jury returned their verdict on May 3

After nearly nine years of litigation, a jury found Activision Blizzard guilty of patent infringement and ordered it to pay $23.4 million to Acceleration Bay.

The lawsuit alleged that ActiBlizz used networking and broadcast technologies patented by Acceleration Bay in its multiplayer games.

According to the ruling, Activision Blizzard must pay $18 million for World of Warcraft and $5.4 million for two games in the Call of Duty series.

ActiBlizz noted that she was upset by the court’s decision and expressed her intention to file an appeal.

“We are disappointed and believe that there is compelling grounds for appeal. We have never used [Acceleration Bay's] patented technology in our games.”.

Acceleration Bay filed similar patent infringement lawsuits against EA , Take-Two and Amazon Web Services.
