Baldur's Gate 3 wasn't built in a day. First, the game entered early access, which became a real salvation for some. It turned out that Larian is closely monitoring what is happening in the community
It turns out that in the world of Baldur’s Gate 3 there is a character who pays tribute to the father of one of the game’s fans. It became known about the background history of the appearance of Golbraith Stredivas, a retired mind flayer hunter.
The story began in 2020, then a player under the nickname Solfalia shared his plans – he would play Baldur’s Gate 3 together with his father, a connoisseur of BG2, who once introduced the child to role-playing games. Then BG3 just came out in early access and this became a real salvation for Solfalia, since his father suffered from Alzheimer's disease:
«His condition is such that that I'm not sure he'll be able to play the full game with me when it comes out. This worries me because he was looking forward to the release of [Baldur's Gate 3 1.0]. And then you release the game in early access. Not a finished game with a lot of bugs or a skeleton game, but a full-fledged first act with a limited but well-thought-out set of classes and a good long storyline.
Early Access means I'll be able to go on an adventure with him one last time this Christmas, and I know he'll love it. And the fact that the main villains are Mind Flayers is just icing on the cake.
So, Despite the difficulty and pain this Early Access has brought you, please know that I offer you my deepest and most sincere gratitude. For me, this is more than early access, it's another adventure that I can go on with my old man and make good memories“.
The full version of Baldur's Gate 3 was released and it turned out that Larian paid attention to the touching story.
Solfalia remembered how Larian once contacted him and offered to pay tribute to his father , then he talked about it and began to wait for the release of BG3. It turned out that Larian didn't limit itself to just some plaque or mention in the book – they created an entire character:
«Galbraith not only looked like my father , but also received several lines of dialogue. There are also very touching ones (for me, at least). The various recordings in the house were amazing, and the correspondence between Galbraith and his son gave me a lump in my throat. I'd be lying if I said my eyes weren't wet“.
Now Solfalia’s father can no longer play Baldur’s Gate 3 and lives with a specialized institution. However, he was pleased to hear that the game had a character created in his honor.
