Due to lack of experience and incorrect equipment settings
The experiment with packaging Baikal processors at all sites is going difficult, as reported by Vedomosti. with reference to sources in electronics manufacturing companies.
«More than half of the output batches of chips turn out to be defective», says a source familiar with the progress of the experiments. This is confirmed by another interlocutor of Vedomosti.
The reasons cited are the equipment that needs to be configured, as the interlocutors described. In addition, the people who package chips still have insufficient competencies.
«In Russia they can package a small number of processors, but when it comes to the series, there are a lot of defects, — explains one of the interlocutors. — Manufacturers cannot maintain an equally good level on all products».
However, the company is going to increase the percentage of quality products in order to increase its market share.
Previously it became known that after the introduction of sanctions and due to the inability to use TSMC services, the plant began packaging at the facilities of the Russian holding GS Group in the Kaliningrad region. It is also planned to launch the process at the facilities of Milandra. and «Mikron» in Zelenograd.
Updated: the following comment was given by Andrey Evdokimov, CEO of «Baikal Electronics».
- «Baikal Electronics» – Fabless company that develops, i.e. designs processors without its own production. Consequently, it has neither the equipment for assembling chips nor the corresponding personnel;
- Our company, together with a number of partners, is actually conducting experiments on assembling processors in Russia;
- As you might guess, the experiment – That’s what the experiment is for, it doesn’t involve any serial assemblies, high yield, etc.;
- The experimental results so far give reason for very moderate optimism;
- We will inform you about further developments later.
