Lexus has patented the designations for the upcoming model, and they give an idea of the powertrains
The all-new Lexus ES, expected to debut in 2025, will have both pure electric and hybrid powertrains. This follows from the patented designations of the new model.
Letter «e» in the name indicates the use of a purely electric power plant, and the letter «h» indicates a conventional (non-plug-in) hybrid system. There are three designations registered for the Lexus ES: ES 350e, ES 500e and ES 350h. Probably, the basic electric version will have one electric motor, the top-end — two. The hybrid, apparently, will be single-wheel drive. Currently, the Lexus ES is equipped with both pure gasoline engines of 2.0 and 2.5 liters, and a hybrid power plant based on a 2.5-liter engine. But it is not a fact that such a hybrid system will remain in the all-new Lexus ES.
By 2023, Lexus plans to offer every one of its models with a pure electric powertrain, with a longer-term goal — to become an all-electric brand by 2035.
