The feature will be enabled even in Windows 11 Home
The Windows 24H2 update, among other things, will bring one very important and controversial change to the operation of the system. After the update, all users, even Windows 11 Home owners, will automatically have BitLocker enabled.
BitLocker is a data encryption feature that encrypts information on the entire drive. It has been present in Windows 11 for a long time, but is disabled by default in Windows 11 Home, and in general it is aimed primarily at the corporate segment.
BitLocker has two problems. The first is that if the key is lost, it will not be possible to restore the originally encrypted data. The second — BitLocker can significantly affect the performance of an SSD, reducing it in a number of tasks by approximately half, and also reducing the life of the drive.
