Governor of the Kaluga Region Vladislav Shapsha in an interview with the TV channel «Russia 24» outlined the deadline for the restart of the former Russian Volkswagen plant. It is reported that negotiations between the company «Art-Finance», the current owner of the enterprise, and a potential partner are in the final stage. «The final touches to these negotiations have already been completed», – said Vladislav Shapsha. According to him, the restart will take place in the first half of the year, that is, before the beginning of July.

In other words, by the time it is restarted, the site will have been idle for two years. However, Volkswagen – one of the largest car factories in Russia (maximum production capacity – 225 thousand cars per year), and restarting it is not so easy.

Let us remind you that at the end of the year, a small batch of Chery crossovers began to be assembled at the former Volkswagen plant.
