Valve's SteamOS 3.6.0 preview update includes new graphics drivers for faster gaming performance and overclocking of the standard Steam Deck (LCD).

Owners of the Steam Deck (LCD version) will be able to squeeze even more power out of their portable computers, increasing performance and therefore smoothness in some games.

Other innovations include improved compatibility with Bluetooth, improved display and expanded VRR support. Valve is also introducing new options to the Steam Deck LCD BIOS, allowing users to overclock the console to its maximum. As a result, devices with modified cooling should experience slightly better performance.

The new Mesa graphics driver has been updated to version 24.1, and according to Valve, provides “many performance improvements” and also improves the responsiveness of the interface and system.

The SteamOS 3.6.0 update includes general changes such as updating to a new version of Arch Linux, improved support for pairing with Apple AirPods, faster recovery of sessions after GPU failures, fixes for some problems connecting to access points that support WPA3 security, and Linux kernel update to version 6.5.
