Top-end motherboards for Ryzen 9000 processors will be quite expensive. All because of USB4 with a speed of 40 Gbps

This year AMD will release new processors based on the Zen 5 architecture. According to recent data, top-end motherboards for such CPUs will be very expensive. 

In particular, boards based on the X870E chipset will be required to be equipped with USB4 ports with a speed of 40 Gbps. The problem is that Granite Ridge desktop processors will not have integrated USB4 support. This means that such boards will have to be additionally equipped with a special controller. It is reported that this will be the ASMedia ASM4242 USB4, which will be used in conjunction with two Promontory 21 chips, which together form the X870E chipset.  

It is reported that AMD specifically requires the use of the above controller to ensure uniformity and compatibility of all X870E boards, regardless of manufacturer.

By the way, the upcoming CPUs may indeed be called Ryzen 9000, and not Ryzen 8000, and this is not the first time that such an omission has occurred for AMD. Today it is believed that the Ryzen 9000 will retain the chiplet configuration of its predecessors, will also have a maximum of 16 cores, but will switch to a 4 nm process technology, like the mobile Ryzen 7040/8040.
