Volkswagen teases the public with the updated 2025 Volkswagen Golf R by showing off a camouflaged prototype. Additionally, the automaker announced that the Golf R will be unveiled on June 26.
The teaser shows illuminated headlights connected by an LED strip and an illuminated Volkswagen logo. The headlights are similar in appearance to the updated units found on the new GTI, and previously published photos also showed restyled taillights with a similar design. Large openings in the front bumper cool the engine and give the 2025 Volkswagen Golf R an aggressive look. The vehicle is equipped with a rear spoiler.
The interior is expected to receive the same upgrades as the GTI: a new screen, an updated infotainment system and physical buttons on the steering wheel instead of the haptic touch controls of the previous car.
Like the GTI, the Golf R can get extra power. The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four currently produces 315 hp. Unfortunately, Volkswagen dropped the manual transmission after the 2024 model year, so the 2025 Golf R will be offered exclusively with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
