This game brings to its knees not video cards, but processors. Dragon's Dogma 2 players suggest killing NPCs for extra frames

The developers are aware of the problem

Tomorrow the game Dragon's Dogma 2 will be released on PC, which journalists have already praised very highly. Unfortunately, the performance of this game leaves much to be desired.

Despite the fact that the game was created on the RE Engine, which has shown itself to be excellent in recent games in the Resident Evil series, in Dragon's Dogma 2 the situation is radically different. The game is at the same time very demanding, and at the same time it is not saved by DLSS support.

The problem is that, unlike the vast majority of modern games, Dragon's Dogma 2 is very demanding on the performance of the processor, not the video card.

As you can see, in Full HD with maximum settings and ray tracing disabled in the city, a combination of Core i7-14700KF and GeForce RTX 4070 Ti allows you to get about 70 fps, while the 1% Low indicator is only 33 fps. And the same video card, but with a Core i7-9700K, only shows 41 fps and 19 fps, respectively. Radeon RX 7800 XT with two different CPUs also perfectly demonstrates the processor dependence of the game.

Interestingly, because of this feature, the transition to 4K resolution has a very slight effect on performance, which can be assessed as a plus. Unfortunately, the authors from PC Gamer did not have a Core i9-14900K or Ryzen 7 7800X3D to evaluate the performance of these most powerful CPUs in terms of gaming.

Due to the emphasis on the processor, upscalers practically do not work. Neither DLSS nor FSR provide much of a boost regardless of the quality mode. However, frame generation is not supported.

The developers from Capcom have already responded to complaints from players, explaining that such a high dependence on the CPU is due to the abundance of NPCs — everyone is allocated a lot of PC resources. The company stated that it was looking for a solution to the problem, but so far players have found their own way to reduce the resource intensity of the game — It's enough to just kill the most unnecessary NPCs.
