And it even supports overclocking
The Expreview resource was the first in China to obtain and test the GeForce RTX 4090D – version of the GeForce RTX 4090, created by Nvidia specifically for the Chinese market and meeting all US sanctions requirements. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090D was cut in terms of thermal package (from 450 to 425 W), reduced the number of CUDA cores to 14 592 and «cancelled» overclocking (base frequency – 2280 MHz, frequency in Boost mode – 2520 MHz): one might think that this model would be 10-15% slower than the regular GeForce RTX 4090. But in reality the difference – only about 5-6%.
Expreview took Galax RTX4090D Metal Master for review – with three fans, a cooler that takes up the space of three and a half slots, and a metal heat spreader plate.
The test results are as follows: in synthetic tests, the GeForce RTX 4090D is inferior to the GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition by 6.7%, in games at 4K resolution – 5.5%, in games at 4K resolution with real-time ray tracing – 5.8%, in DLSS3 tests – 5%.
As for overclocking, the TGP value for this model is not strictly limited – it can reach 480W. In the current version of the software, unfortunately, it is impossible to increase the power limit, but this did not stop the reviewer from raising the GPU frequency by 200 MHz, which resulted in a 2.3% improvement in performance in synthetic tests. There is hope that by the time of official retail sales of the GeForce RTX 4090D (in about 1-2 weeks), the software will be finalized and full overclocking will be possible. Then the GeForce RTX 4090D can even be comparable in performance to the GeForce RTX 4090. It is not surprising that Nvidia is asking for the GeForce RTX 4090D in China exactly the same as the GeForce RTX 4090 asked when it was still available.
