The company got rid of the subwoofer and six speakers
Over the years, Tesla has invested heavily in quality audio for its vehicles. The automaker hired engineers from Bang & Olufsen and other major audio brands. As a result, the sound system of the Model 3 and Model Y was well received by audiophiles.
However, it has now become known that Tesla has decided to significantly cut the sound system in the rear-wheel drive version of the Model Y, its most popular car. The automaker has updated its online configurator and the audio section now states that the sound system includes 7 speakers and 1 amplifier.
Before this, the car had 13 speakers, 1 subwoofer and 2 amplifiers. This configuration remains in the dual-engine and Performance versions of the Model Y.
The move is considered a new attempt by Tesla to cut costs. The company is trying to lower the prices of its vehicles while maintaining industry-leading gross margins.
