40 years ago Apple introduced the Macintosh, which revolutionized the mass market for computers.
January 24, 1984, the computer was introduced by Steve Jobs, becoming the first successful device with a graphical user interface. Additionally, the first Macintosh played a key role in popularizing the computer mouse.
The price of the first Macintosh was $2,495, which, adjusted for inflation, is equivalent to about $7,000 today. The device was equipped with an 8 MHz processor, 128 KB of RAM, a floppy drive and 400 KB of file storage.
To celebrate the anniversary, fans launched mac40th.com, which showcases every Macintosh desktop and laptop Apple has ever made and contains hundreds of photos.
