The company will build three factories in the USA
TSMC will receive financial assistance from the US government to build a new plant in Arizona.
The US Department of Commerce will provide TSMC with a $6.6 billion subsidy to develop semiconductor manufacturing in Phoenix. In addition, TSMC will receive $5 billion in loans and will also be eligible to claim an investment tax credit of up to 25% of capital expenditures.
This is all part of a government initiative under the CHIPS Act to revive semiconductor manufacturing in the United States.
TSMC itself has already committed to increase investment in its projects in the US by $25 billion, bringing the total investment to $65 billion. This is the largest foreign direct investment in an entirely new project in US history.
TSMC announced plans to build a third plant in Arizona by 2030. At the same time, the first will begin producing chips using the 4 nm process technology next year. The second plant will be launched by 2028 and will produce products at 2 nm standards. And that same third one will also produce 2-nanometer chips, but with the ability in the future to produce products at even finer standards.
