Otherwise Russian enterprises will have to reduce production and switch to single-shift mode

The head of AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, said that the Russian government needs to protect the Russian auto industry from Chinese expansion.

Sokolov says that enterprises in the Russian auto industry will have to reduce production and switch to single-shift operation if the government does not protect the market from the aggressive expansion of Chinese manufacturers. The latter actively attract customers with large discounts, which, among other things, exceed the size of the recycling fee.

Also, the head of AvtoVAZ noted that the Expert Council under the State Duma Committee of Industry and Trade will soon develop proposals for a systematic increase in the recycling fee for cars. This is what should encourage Chinese companies to invest in localizing the production of their cars in Russia.

You can recall the statistics of last year, during which just over 1 million cars were sold in Russia, while Chinese brands took all the places in the list of leaders from second to seventh. Cumulative sales of only the three best Chinese brands — Chery, Haval and Geely — amounted to more than 324,000 cars, which is almost identical to Lada sales. In general, Chinese brands have now captured more than half of the new car market in Russia.
