The EU has defeated Apple again. The company will open access to NFC on iPhone to third-party developers, bypassing Apple Pay and Wallet

EU only

Apple continues to significantly change its rules due to new EU laws. Next up — NFC.

The company announced that it agrees to provide third-party developers with access to the NFC module on the iPhone. That is, iPhone owners will be able to use third-party e-wallet applications with active NFC.

What’s interesting is that Apple waited until the last minute. The investigation by EU antitrust authorities started four years ago. Yesterday, the European Commission published a document that requires Apple to explain the restrictions on access to NFC. Immediately after this, Apple announced that it was ready to do as the European Commission wants.

In our ongoing discussions with the European Commission, we have committed to providing third-party developers in the European Economic Area with a capability that will allow their users to make contactless payments via NFC from their iOS apps, separate from Apple Pay and Apple Wallet& nbsp;

It's worth noting that Apple promises to do this only for EU residents. Let us remind you that the same applies to the issue of the possibility of installing applications from third-party stores — This will also only appear for users from the European Union, since other countries have not adopted any similar laws. Although, following the example of the EU, they can do this.
