The first car with the new power plant is the Qin L DM-i sedan
BYD today officially introduced the fifth generation DM hybrid technology. The company is so confident in its capabilities that they are not being modest: they are talking about a new era of hybrid cars.
The power plant still contains an internal combustion engine, but with thermal efficiency increased to 46.06%. Average fuel consumption is 2.9 l/100 km, maximum range — 2100 km (here we mean the range of a fully fueled car and with a fully charged traction battery).
The first BYD cars with the new power plant will be the Qin L DM-i and Haibao 06 DM-i sedans. They will be presented today, but a little later.
Toyota — the most famous manufacturer of hybrids, but according to the stated characteristics, Japanese cars are inferior to the «Chinese». Thus, the plug-in hybrid Prius Prime (for the US market) can travel 825 km, of which 772 km on gasoline and 53 km on pure electricity. However, everything here very much depends on the capacity of the traction battery (13.6 kWh for the Prius Prime) and the volume of the fuel tank (just over 40 liters).
