In the rocket and space center «Progress» (part of Roscosmos) a meeting of the Council of Chief Designers was held dedicated to the creation of the Soyuz-5 space rocket complex. Let us recall that the promising two-stage medium-class launch vehicle «Soyuz-5» is being developed for launching automatic spacecraft into various low-Earth orbits, in particular, using upper stages. It will receive the most powerful rocket engine in the world at the moment, RD-171, the second flight sample of which was recently assembled at NPO «Energomash».
The council was attended by representatives of co-executing enterprises and leading institutes of the rocket and space industry. Chief designer of the launch vehicle «Soyuz-5» Alexander Cherevan reported that this year at the RCC «Progress». and the Central Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering have completed tests of the experimental oxidizer tank of the first stage of the rocket; it is now being rebuilt into a prototype intended for cold and fire bench tests.
Also in RCC «Progress» The production of the experimental first-stage fuel tank of Soyuz-5, the installation of the pneumatic hydraulic system and on-board cable network are being completed, and pneumatic tests of the tank will be carried out in the near future. The tank is scheduled to be sent to TsNIIMash for dynamic tests in the second decade of December this year. The council made a number of decisions aimed at effective work to create «Soyuz-5» within the schedule. It was previously noted that the first launch of the rocket will take place on December 24, 2025.
