This decision is unlikely to be implemented, because then Google will receive many new lawsuits from Russian banks
The Moscow Arbitration Court fully satisfied the claim of the Russian company «DublGIS» (creator of the 2GIS mapping service) to Google and obliged to return the 2GIS application to Google Play. Information about this was found in the file of arbitration cases. Let us remind you that the 2GIS application was removed from the Google Play online application store back in May last year due to sanctions against Russia.
Summer 2023 «DublGIS» filed a lawsuit against the Russian «Google», the Irish Google Commerce Limited and the American Google LLC, where it demanded that Google's refusal to distribute the 2GIS application be invalidated, restored in Russia and the CIS countries, as well as restore the company's account and return access to email [email protected]. The Russian company also demanded payment of a penalty of 100 thousand rubles for each day of non-fulfillment of the court decision and with the amount doubling every week.
At the same time, experts note that Google has already failed to comply with several court decisions on similar disputes, and it is hardly worth saying that this particular decision will be implemented. If this does happen, then other companies whose applications were also removed from Google Play will begin to more actively file lawsuits against Google, primarily banks.
At the beginning of January of this year, Russian Google Play users began to receive messages that the 2GIS application was malicious and was trying to gain access to users’ personal data: call logs, SMS, audio logs and photos. But in «DublGIS» conducted an examination of the application with the help of specialists from «Kaspersky Lab» and stated that no malicious components were found in it, and to work you only need access to the microphone for voice search queries and access to SMS for authorization.
