All old foreign cars will gradually be replaced
At the end of February, the authorities of 38 regions of the Russian Federation provided deputies with domestically produced cars.
Of these, 34 regions will replace foreign cars localized in Russia until 2022 with domestic ones as they are retired, as reported by a source in the State Duma.
Three regions so far provide deputies with foreign cars produced outside of Russia: the Amur and Kaliningrad regions, as well as Ingushetia. Some regions have not yet concluded lease agreements due to a lack of requests from deputies. Applications from the authorities of new regions were also not received, since there are no elected deputies there yet.
In accordance with the law, the regional government rents a car for deputies through auction. «The deputy uses it, and the invoice for payment is issued to the State Duma», — explained the source.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in August 2023 that all Russian officials should drive domestic cars. The list approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade contains approved brands, some of them — these are localized Chinese brands.
