Bentley has announced the end of production of its legendary 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine and has selected a powerful replacement — a new V8 plug-in hybrid system that will be integrated with existing hybrid technology. The manufacturer calls it “the most powerful, responsive and efficient transmission in Bentley history.”

The new power system is called «Ultra High Performance Plug-in Hybrid System» and has a total power of more than 750 hp. and a range of 80 km using purely electric energy. Torque figures have yet to be announced, but Bentley said it will reach four-digit Nm.

Instantaneous power output from the electric motor will help Bentley's flagship model achieve rapid acceleration, with a 0-60 mph time of less than 3.4 seconds.

The new V8 plug-in hybrid system will be the brand's flagship powertrain and is expected to be featured on all new models in the coming years.

Bentley plans to become an all-electric brand by 2030, and by 2026 all Bentley models will be hybrid or all-electric.

Previously, the Bentley Batur convertible with a 6-liter W12 — the most expensive car in the history of the brand.
