Tencent and Ubisoft create non-player characters using artificial intelligence based on NVIDIA technology

NVIDIA Ace allows studios to use AI tools to fully generate in-game NPCs, from lip-syncing to conversations and animations.

Ubisoft and Tencent began using NVIDIA's AI generation tool. These are the first major companies to use the technology, which includes NetEase and Genshin Impact developers MiHoYo.

Ace was announced in 2023 and allows the generation of artificially intelligent NPCs. The tool allows for lip syncing, in-game rendering, and text-to-speech translation for the player. NVIDIA does not specify what data is used to train Ace.

Last year, Ubisoft made it clear that it would use AI with the release of the Ghostwriter tool.

In theory, such tools help ease the burden of game development. But the technology carries a stigma and condemnation from the gaming community. For example, this weekend, Wizards of the Coast came under fire for using artificial intelligence in advertising for Magic: The Gathering.
