Tekken 8 on Xbox Series S “reminiscent of a PS3-era fighting game.” Experts praise 'great technology'

British Digital Foundry experts tested the Bandai Namco game on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Xbox Series X offers “higher dynamic resolution” than PlayStation 5, but during action it's “hard to tell the difference” – the maximum resolution is 4K, but in reality “it's often closer to 1440p or slightly higher” . For PC, the developers used AMD FSR1.

But with the Xbox Series S there are problems: the game offers a maximum resolution of 1080p, but “often drops to 720p or even lower, which leads to image quality, more reminiscent of the fighting games of the PS3 era.” lower in terms of texture detail. I suspect this is due to less memory, but it mostly means that some surfaces are using the lowest possible texture settings. Overall the game looks good, but due to the low resolution and unclear textures it lags behind its older brother.”

The developers have improved input lag – on consoles it is about 58 ms, and on PC with VRR it is about 42 ms. That's much better than the original 120ms or so at the release of Tekken 7. Bandai Namco eventually lowered the input lag on the previous title with the update to around 73ms, but Tekken 8 already performs much better than its predecessor.
