Russians are trying to return cars purchased in Belarus: what’s the matter?

All due to increased taxes and fees from April 1

Russians are trying to return cars that were purchased at attractive prices in Belarus, as reported by the Belarusian publication abw.by.

The fact is that after buying a car in Belarus and registering it in Russia, car owners were faced with the fact that they began to be required to pay additional taxes and fees.

After April 1, 2024, they began to «hang» additional payments due to understatement of customs value, including due to the benefits used in Belarus. These payments are included in the recycling fee.

In Belarus, large families, orphans and disabled people in Belarus enjoy good benefits, for them the state pays 50% of the customs duty if the car is intended for personal use. It is obvious that some benefit owners resell cars at a profit.

Residents of Russia actively used this scheme, and it was quite easy to find a beneficiary, but now this scheme is no longer so attractive. As ABW writes, residents of Belarus began to contact the editor with the same question: “They recently sold their cars to Russian buyers, and now the new owners of the cars are trying to return them. Like, it has become excessively expensive to register a car in Russia».

The example is a 2019 Ford Kuga, which was purchased by a resident of Voronezh. For a car in Russia they ask you to pay an additional 1,279,000 rubles, otherwise it will not be registered.

«The legal prospects for a Russian car owner in Belarus are so illusory that it is not even worth talking about», — adds abw.by.
