They will introduce satellite communication services in transport
During the CIPR-2024 conference in Nizhny Novgorod, the Russian private space company «Bureau 1440» signed agreements on cooperation in the field of application of satellite technologies with Russian Railways and Aeroflot. The companies will provide railway and air transport passengers with Internet access using broadband data transmission technology based on a low-orbit satellite constellation.
Broadband data transfer will allow you to increase speed up to 10 times – from 100 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s per subscriber terminal and reduce data transmission delay from 700 ms to 70 ms. Thanks to this, companies in the transport industry will be able to implement remote control, backup and video communication services throughout Russia and beyond, noted the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.
Russian Railways Holding announced that it will be the first in the country to integrate satellite broadband services into the train information system. Satellite communication services are in demand in the passenger sector, they are needed for cargo transportation and the operation of unmanned vehicles. Testing of the system is planned to begin in 2025. In «Aeroflot» noted that modern satellite communication systems will provide high-speed Internet on board the aircraft and increase safety through effective tracking of aircraft.
«Bureau 1440» is creating a broadband data transmission service based on its own low-orbit satellite constellation. In June 2023, the company launched the first three devices, and on the night of May 16-17, 2024, the second experimental mission, Rassvet-2, was launched. Then it was stated that for the first time in the history of the Russian space industry, the 5G NTN standard (non-terrestrial networks – non-terrestrial networks) was used to communicate with subscribers.
