Nvidia warns in advance that its future next-generation AI accelerators will initially be in short supply

Due to huge demand

Nvidia decided to warn in advance that its Blackwell generation accelerators will be in short supply immediately after launch.

We are pleased that Hopper architecture product delivery is improving. Demand for Hopper remains very high. We expect the supply of our next generation products to be limited as demand far exceeds supply.

Nvidia does not specify how large the shortage will be, but it is worth understanding that even the same H100 is still not available for purchase in the shortest possible time. Just recently, the average wait time was close to a year, but recently Nvidia has significantly reduced it, although we are still talking about three to four months.

Considering that Blackwell will be newer and more productive than Hopper and at the time of release, apparently, will be the most powerful solution among accelerators for AI, it is quite possible that the situation with the shortage will be even worse than in case with the current H100.

The new architecture is expected to be announced in March at the GTC 2024 event, but deliveries will begin much later.
