The mission officially ended on January 25, 2024
The American Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA has published an interesting video that demonstrates all the flights of Ingenuity helicopters on Mars — each of 72 flights.
In the video you can easily get an idea of how much distance Ingenuity covered and the trajectory of each flight. In total, the helicopter covered 17 kilometers over rough terrain. This is about 14 times more than NASA originally planned.
Recall that the Ingenuity helicopter was delivered to Mars attached to the bottom of the Perseverance rover, which landed in Jezero Crater on February 18, 2021. The mission officially ended on January 25, 2024, with the vehicle continuing to communicate with NASA's Perseverance rover, which serves as the base station for Ingenuity. The helicopter will now serve as a stationary test bed for data collection.
