During a recent interview, Phil Spencer detailed Game Pass's financial model and discussed Microsoft's plan to release games from internal studios in 2023.
Speaking about the opportunities that the subscription service opens up, the head of Xbox explained that Game Pass allows studios to follow their passion and explore different genres. He further said:
“If you look at things like Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, and games like Grounded, they've all been real successes for us.”
He noted that Game Pass is a platform that has all types of games, from the biggest releases to games from niche indie developers, even if the latter's game may not be what players are originally going to play.
Since this approach has worked, Phil Spencer hopes to continue exploring similar small and medium-sized projects. Hi-Fi Rush in particular is the shining star of Game Pass in 2023, so fans should be prepared for games that take inspiration from similar releases.
