Cards are aimed at calculations
The problem with the fire-hazardous 12VHPWR power connector on the GeForce RTX 4090 is almost not covered in the media, but it has not gone away. AMD has never used this port and, according to rumors, is not going to use it in the new Radeon RX 8000 line. But ASRock decided to release the first Radeon cards on the market with such a port.
To be more precise, ASRock used an improved version of 12V-2×6, which should suffer less from the problems of 12VHPWR. The manufacturer released the Radeon RX 7900 XT WS and Radeon RX 7900 XTX WS with this connector.
These adapters are also interesting because they are equipped with a cooling system with a centrifugal fan, that is, a “turbine”. Given the fairly high power consumption of top AMD cards, such a CO will probably be quite noisy. However, even ASRock itself notes that it did this on purpose, since these particular versions of the cards are not aimed at gamers, but at computing. And two-slot «turbines» allow you to install more of these cards in one PC.
