From $136,050
After more than a year of absence from the US market, the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe returns. Today, March 18, Mercedes announced that pricing for the 469-horsepower GT55 starts at $136,050. GT63 577 hp MSRP rises to $177,050.
GT Coupe second generation — It's not a hardcore sports car like the original, but just a GT car. It no longer has a bespoke platform, rear dual-clutch transmission, dry sump engine or crew cab. The GT now has four seats and standard all-wheel drive. Both the GT55 and GT63 are powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The main competitor is still the Porsche 911. Price-wise, the GT55 is slightly cheaper than the $140,250 911 Carrera 4S. The GT63 sits between the 911 Carrera 4 GTS and the Turbo.
As for other GT cars, the Lexus LC500 is much cheaper — $100,300, with a new Aston Martin Vantage costing closer to $200,000. Meanwhile, the Aston Martin DB12, Bentley Continental GT and Ferrari Roma cost about $250,000.
Mercedes says the first second-generation GTs should arrive at U.S. dealers this spring.
