The next one will cost $50,000
Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson noted that Lucid's ambitions go beyond the premium segment. Let's remember that the Air electric sedan has a starting price of more than $80,000 excluding tax benefits, and the Air Sapphire was estimated at $249,000.
«The mid-size electric car will be a clear competitor to Tesla — Model 3, Model Y. This is the first time I've said this: we're going to compete in the family car market and produce them in large volumes», — Rawlinson told UK agency Autocar.
He added that the next model will cost $50,000, which is closer to the current prices of the Tesla Model Y. On the other hand, the Model 3 can be purchased for less than $30,000 when all discounts are used.< /p>
One of the few problems Tesla faced early on with its Model 3 and Model Y lineups was quality issues. Minor inconsistencies in fit and finish, as well as gaps in panels, were widely reported. Lucid could learn from Tesla's experience and tighten quality controls on its future models to set itself apart from the competition from the start.
Another area where Lucid may have an advantage, — this is the power reserve.
