Kotaku editor-in-chief Alyssa Mercante was not ready to answer for her words outside a cozy studio among like-minded people
The other day, Kotaku editor-in-chief Alyssa Mercante publicly challenged anyone who criticizes the agenda, diversity and inclusion in games.
“I want the gaming industry to be more courageous against all the scoundrels who spread evil. They openly told these people that they did not want to be around such scoundrels and complete scum who hated diversity in a diverse world. If you have a problem with this [Mercante addressed everyone], then let’s solve this with a fight, ****”.
When Mercante was asked what she would do if someone actually accepted her challenge, she replied:
“No one will accept, because they are all pathetic cowards”.
However Mercante was wrong in her judgment regarding the community and there were many people who actually accepted her challenge.
“I can’t answer this *** directly, because she added me to the blacklist, so let her write to me herself. Let’s make it even more interesting: let’s arrange a public duel, where the winner will receive a thousand dollars, and the loser will make a public apology.”,” suggested Vara Dark.
“Challenge accepted, doll”,” wrote Mara Jade, attaching a photo of three cups received for first places at the judo championships.
“Since Miss Alyssa added me to the blacklist, she most likely will not be able to accept a call from a black woman. But I'm still ready. Let’s get this straight, you racist ****”,” said La Reina Creole.
In response to Vara Dark’s proposal, Mercante began to put forward her own conditions:
“No prize money. Only charity. You won’t broadcast to your racist viewers either.” blogger Keemstar invited her to organize an official duel.
“Dear Alyssa Mercante and Vara Dark. HappyPunch will be happy to help you organize a fight.”.
To which Mercante immediately replied:
“I won’t pay you. Thank you.”.
When Keemstar asked why Mercante should pay him at all, she replied:
“You’ll make money from this, and I don’t like you.”
Keemstar tried to explain that he makes money from this and doesn’t even know her, but simply responded to a request from friends to organize a fight, but Mercante was determined to avoid the fight she asked for at any cost.
“Advertising, judging, security – how do you pay for it? Who does the money from ticket sales go to? If all the proceeds go to approved charities, then that's a completely different story, but I I won’t let a morally corrupt person make money off of me.”.
