Intel again non-publicly requires board manufacturers to comply with the recommended profile for default processors . This time the company is asking to add a profile called “Intel Default Settings” to the BIOS options and make it enabled by default.
Recall that recently a problem has become known with Intel Raptor Lake-S processors of the 13th and 14th generations with unlocked overclocking, which are “buggy” in games. The company believes that this is a matter of partners' failure to comply with the recommended characteristics for chips. Here's Intel's message to manufacturers:
“Intel requires system and motherboard manufacturers to provide end users with a default BIOS profile that matches Intel's recommended settings.
— Suggested profile name «Intel Default Settings».
— Intel is asking customers to implement the «Intel Default Settings» as the default BIOS profile until May 31, 2024.
Intel strongly recommends that BIOS default settings ensure operation within Intel's recommended settings.”
Intel also provided specific restrictions, in particular for the Intel Core i9-14900K processor.
Motherboard manufacturers have actually already implemented the recommended settings or are in the process of doing so. In particular, they removed the actual unlimited power limit (4000 W), which some boards used. It was often cited as the cause of incorrect operation.
