The test stand for this power unit alone will cost several billion rubles
Governor of the Perm Territory Dmitry Makhonin told how work is progressing on the project to create the largest Russian aircraft engine, PD-35. According to him, the prototype is already being assembled.
«In fact, the PD-35 is already being assembled, the breakthrough is very serious. Test events can be carried out… To build a stand, you need several billion — six, eight, in 2021 prices. We are ready to provide everything necessary, tax benefits… The decision is up to the federal authorities and the state corporation „Rostec“», — told by Dmitry Makhonin.
This is a rather interesting statement, since, based on the words of the governor, there is no test stand yet, although Rostec previously stated that tests of the PD-35 will begin at the beginning of 2024. Either the stand will be built very quickly, or tests will begin later, or the PD-35 will begin to be tested not on the stand, but in some other way.
PD-35 has been in development since 2016, it will be the largest Russian aircraft engine. It is planned to be used on a promising long-range aircraft (modernized Il-96) and a large military transport An-124-100 «Ruslan». According to the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, the serial version of the PD-35 will appear only by 2030.
