Game designer Hideki Kamiya left Platinum Games because he believes games are art, not products

One of the main creators associated with the company has left, allegedly “of his own accord”, which came as a shock to Platinum Games fans. Hideki Kamiya is responsible for Devil May Cry, Resident Evil Zero, Viewtiful Joe, Ōkami and Bayonetta.

If the founder leaves the company, it means that something is wrong in it, which does not bode well for gamers. The Japanese developer's fans loved their games for their unique style, but now Platinum Games' works will be “products” rather than works of art. Hideki Kamiya spoke about this in an interview, where he described the problem as follows:

“My cooperation with PlatinumGames was based on a trusting relationship with the company. I decided to leave because I felt that the direction the company was going was inconsistent with my beliefs as a developer. Without that element of trust, I couldn't continue working there, so I left so I could continue to work the way I thought was right.

I don't view games as products, but rather as works of art. I want to translate my art into games and create games that can only be created by Hideki Kamiya, so that players can enjoy Hideki Kamiya's games exactly as they are. I have decided to leave the company and follow my own path to continue making games that reflect the developers who create them.”
