For this purpose, archived audio messages from instant messengers are used
VTB specialists reported on new tools that scammers use to attack users in instant messengers and social networks. Attackers began using voice messages from existing correspondence with people from their contact list, whereas previously audio recordings were created using artificial intelligence.
Fraudsters hack the victim’s messenger account and study correspondence with friends and colleagues. Having selected a suitable interlocutor, they write him a text message on behalf of the account owner. The task of cybercriminals – gain trust, so they can continue a previously started dialogue with this contact or bring up any topic about which correspondence was previously conducted. To conduct a dialogue, scammers copy old voice messages, which convinces the interlocutor that his friend or relative is really communicating with him.
After this, the attackers proceed to ask for financial assistance, for example, to borrow money for one day to pay for an apartment. As a result, the victim transfers money to a card whose number is sent by the scammer. Experts recommend that users do not give in to persuasion and check information through additional communication channels. For greater protection, you can delete voice messages from chats after listening or enable the auto-delete option.
