Demand for the Golf R in the United States in the last quarter of 2023 soared almost fivefold, and this is attributed specifically to the gearbox
Volkswagen spoke about sales of its «hot» hatchbacks in the US, and there is cause for celebration. Based on the results of the fourth quarter of 2023, sales of the Volkswagen Golf GTI increased by 7.6% – to 7451 units, but the «evil» Golf R– sales soared 116% (to 3,238 units).
According to Motor1, manual transmission versions are very popular: about half of Golf GTIs sold were equipped with a manual transmission, and about 40% of Volkswagen Golf R's sold had three pedals. And it is the manual transmission that is responsible for the rise in sales: the Golf GTI lost it with the transition to the 2024 model year, and this year will be the last for the Golf R with a 6-speed manual transmission.
