Mondeo is currently only sold in China
Ford remembered that it once had a hybrid Mondeo: such a car with a power plant based on a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine was sold in both Europe and the USA (though as a Fusion). After Mondeo left all key markets, only petrol variants remained in the range – such cars are now sold in China. But soon a hybrid will join them again.
The Ford Mondeo HEV has already been photographed in China: apparently, it inherited the power plant from the Edge L crossover: it includes a 1.5-liter engine and an e-CVT. There is no information about the electrical part, but since the hybrid is not plug-in, the capacity of the traction battery will be quite small. But the consumption should be lower than conventional gasoline versions (6.6-7.4 l/100 km).
The hybrid power plant will be the third in the range of the Chinese Mondeo. The original was a 2.0-liter petrol turbo engine, and this summer a 1.5-liter petrol turbo engine was installed under the hood of the base Mondeo. However, the difference in power between these two engines is very small.
The official premiere of the hybrid Ford Mondeo is expected in the coming weeks.
