The company remains the undisputed leader in this market

Today marks exactly 14 years since the first iPad tablet entered the market.

The announcement of the first iPad took place on January 20, 2010, and sales in the United States started on April 3 of the same year. As with the iPhone, Apple took something that already existed in some form on the market, rethought it, made it better, and essentially changed the market.

Tablets existed long before the iPad, but they were very large, bulky and specific devices that were not at all designed to be controlled only with your fingers. The first generation iPad was much thinner and lighter than other tablets and offered a more convenient interaction format. However, the limitations of iOS on a tablet for a long time prevented the iPad from being a good choice for any professional activity.

In the first 80 days of sales, 3 million tablets were sold, and by the time the iPad 2 was launched, Apple had already sold more than 15 million devices.

After 14 years, Apple continues to be the undisputed leader in the tablet market. For example, at the end of 2023, the company occupied 40.6% of the market, and its closest competitor, Samsung, lagged behind by more than half.
