Shooter connoisseurs had concerns that after the deal with Bethesda, the DOOM franchise would become an Xbox console exclusive. After the announcement of the PS5 version of DOOM The Dark Ages, fans of the Microsoft console had questions
DOOM The Dark Ages was recently introduced. At the end of the trailer, id Software's new products listed the platforms, among which they noticed not only PC and Xbox Series X|S consoles, but also PlayStation 5.
For PlayStation 5 owners, this was a joyful news, and some Xbox fans began to have questions. IGN journalists spoke with Xbox boss Phil Spencer and asked why the decision was made to release DOOM The Dark Ages on the Sony platform, to which they received the following answer:
“Doom is definitely one of those franchises that has a history across multiple platforms. This is a franchise that I think everyone deserves to play. When I met with [id Software chief Marty Stratton] a couple of years ago, I asked him what he wanted to do, and he said he wanted to sell [the game] on all platforms. It's simple.”
DOOM The Dark Ages does not yet have an exact release date, only a release window is available – 2025. The game will offer a look at events before DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal.
