According to screenshots published by Ars, ChatGPT “leaks” request history to others users. These are private conversations containing login credentials and other personal data of users that do not concern him.
Two images sent in by a reader particularly stand out because they contain multiple pairs of usernames and passwords that appear to be connected to a support system used by employees of a pharmacy portal selling prescription drugs. The employee using the chatbot seemed to be solving problems that arose while using the portal.
In addition to explicit statements and credentials, the conversation leaked online contains the name of the program with which the employee is solving problems, and the number of the store where this problem occurred.
The results came after reader Chase Whiteside used ChatGPT for an unrelated query.
I went into the app to make a request (to help come up with sensible names for the colors in the palette) and noticed additional conversations. They weren't there when I used ChatGPT last night (I'm a pretty heavy user). No requests were made – they simply appeared in my history.

Other conversations leaked to Whiteside include the title of a presentation someone was working on, details of an unpublished research proposal, and a script in the PHP programming language. The users of each of the leaks turned out to be different and unrelated to each other. In the conversation regarding the recipe portal, we talked about 2020. No dates were given in other conversations.

This episode and others like it highlight the importance of removing personal data from requests to ChatGPT and other AI services whenever possible. An OpenAI spokesperson said the company is investigating the report.
