Perhaps demand was hampered by the greatly increased price of Geely Emgrand
Since last year, Geely has become a leader in the Belarusian car market, and not least due to the Emgrand sedan, which was much more affordable than in Russia. But in February, the cheap Emgrand with a CVT ran out — It was replaced by an updated and much more expensive car with an automatic transmission, and sales went down. However, a decrease in Geely sales in Belarus was recorded already in January of this year.
If by the end of 2023 Geely’s share in the market of the neighboring country exceeded 72%, then already in January it decreased significantly — to 64%, and in February fell to 57%.
«Chinese cars» It is believed that there are several reasons for the decline in Geely sales in the country. This includes the more expensive Emgrand and the active development of the market by more affordable «Chinese» (Dongfeng is especially active), and establishing Lada supplies.
Geely apparently understands that they are losing the market, so in March they announced attractive financing conditions and fairly decent discounts by local standards of several thousand dollars for trade-in when purchasing a Tugella or Monjaro, but this is not volume-forming models — Coolray (Belgee X50), Atlas Pro and Emgrand are in much greater demand, but for some reason there are no discounts here.
