Apple rep says this is enough for general tasks
Apple again began to defend its decision to equip the younger MacBooks with only 8 GB of RAM.
This time, Kate Bergeron, Apple's vice president of hardware engineering, and Evan Buyze, a member of the Mac marketing team, gave an interview to the Chinese publication ITHome. Among other things, the topic of 8 GB of RAM in the new MacBook Air was also touched upon.
Baize stated that 8 GB is suitable for everyday tasks. Here he included using a browser, slightly editing photos and videos, as well as watching videos. And here it’s hardly worth arguing with Baize, since even basic MacBooks with 8 GB of RAM cope with these tasks perfectly. But for more serious tasks, as numerous tests show, it is the lack of RAM that can become a bottleneck, and sometimes such that performance compared to the version with 16 GB of RAM simply decreases significantly.
The only problem is that even a basic MacBook Air costs from $1000, which is already a lot, considering 8 GB of RAM. What’s worse is that the MacBook Pro 14 is also equipped with 8 GB in the base, and the minimum you have to pay for the 16 GB version is $1,800. At the same time, according to an Apple representative, such a PC is suitable only for everyday tasks.
