These changes are being rolled out gradually to all Google Maps app users
Google has changed the principle of storing data in the «Chronology» service. Google Maps (Google Maps). User location data is now saved on the device. The problem is that as a result, you can lose the old «Chronology» data available online through the web interface.
To maintain access to old data, you need to update Google Maps and service-related settings. Google has already started notifying users about this.
The company warned:
Timeline (previous title – location history) – This is a feature that brings new capabilities to your data. To continue using your timeline, install a new version of the Google Maps app. Otherwise, you may lose data and access to your timeline on «Google Maps».
To retain access to your old Timeline data, you must update the Google Maps app to the latest version and follow the instructions in the push notification, in-app alert, or email you receive.& nbsp;
The email received notes that users have until December 1, 2024 to save or back up old routes on their device. Google warns that inaction may result in partial or complete loss of old data. If you miss the deadline, Google will try to transfer the last 90 days of location history to the first device you sign in to after December 1st, and any older trips will be automatically deleted.
