The history and mechanics of Red Dead Redemption 2 are useful for educational purposes
A user under the nickname AnonymousCerealBowl told the Red Dead Redemption 2 community about a non-standard use of the Rockstar Games game. The rich plot and moral dilemmas were useful in the educational process.
AnonymousCerealBowl teaches English. A year ago, he started teaching a course called “Video Games as Literature” and asked students “What game would they like to see added to the curriculum?.” As a result of the poll, the first and second Red Dead Redemption won.
He applied for a grant to get the required number of copies for his 24 Xbox Series S consoles, two PlayStation 5s and four Nintendo Switch – and achieved success.
He developed a special booklet for students: while playing Read Dead Redemption, they analyze characters, track “moral decisions”; answer questions about adventures.
There is an example of an analysis card for the main character of RDR 2:
«Although we all start with the same base character: Arthur Morgan, after completing the first tutorial chapter our decisions will diverge greatly. Use this page to keep track of your moral choices. Each time the honor bar reacts to your actions, mark here what you did“.
