Judging by the first review, there is no point in changing the GeForce RTX 4080 to the GeForce RTX 4080 Super
Nvidia has pushed back the deadline for publishing the first reviews of the GeForce RTX 4080 Super to January 31 for one simple reason – the accelerator was not ready to be sent to reviewers in a timely manner (so that they had time to test the new product and write reviews). However, one of the first reviews has already appeared on the Internet: and the data suggests that there is no point in changing the GeForce RTX 4080 to the GeForce RTX 4080 Super.
A Hong Kong reviewer known as chaowanke was able to purchase a GeForce RTX 4080 Super on his own, so he is not affected by Nvidia's review restrictions and embargoes. In a few days, he was able to run 3Dmark tests and six games on the AX Gaming RTX 4080 SUPER X3W (AX Gaming – this is a sub-brand of Inno3D).
The test bench included a Core i7-14700K processor and 32 GB of DDR5-6000 RAM. To complete the picture, GeForce RTX 4090 and GeForce 4070 Ti Super took part in the tests.
The results are visible in the graphs: in most synthetic tests, the GeForce RTX 4080 Super is indeed slightly faster than the GeForce RTX 4080 (by a barely noticeable 2.4%), but in games the situation looks different: somewhere the new product is slightly ahead of the GeForce RTX 4080, and in some places it is slightly behind. In general, the difference in performance between the GeForce RTX 4080 and the GeForce RTX 4080 Super is so small that there is no point in replacing the old video card with a new one.
